The Gift & The Curse Poem by Lonche Thrash

The Gift & The Curse

It's so cool when it's brand new
Names get written on kittens like a tatoo
He always said 'don't worry baby, I got you'
A 'God Bless You' after every 'ACHOO! '
Back rubs before the back strokes
The beat skips like heart attack/strokes,
the curse of most black folks
Call it a gift and a curse,
A gift if you're living in the present
Because the future feels so rehearsed
It's so good, loving somebody
When somebody loves you back
But when that somebody don't love you no more
The way you still love them, there ain't no turning back
Then 'I love you's' become something automatic
With no feeling behind it and sex becomes sporadic
You figure God put you here so it's hard to take credit
But free will's directing this movie that's hard to edit
Misery sets in if you let it, If it don't work
That's time wasted and you're thinking you might regret it
One person's love becomes the crutch that you're standing on
You'd rather have that to lean on than stand alone
See, that's the gift in action right there
But it usually only works if you've got the right pair...
