The Gardener Poem by Paula Glynn

The Gardener

Moving into her first nostalgic apartment
She can only fantasize about having a garden
A green space where her heart won't harden
And the idea of a forbidden apple tree
The idea of a delicious pear tree
A blackcurrant bush and growing tomatoes
And many other fruits and vegetables
Making many gardeners feel like they're in heaven.

Moving into her first needing-work house
She doesn't need to fantasize about having a garden
She now grows many green potted plants
She now grows pretty flowers that live in the soil
Plants and flowers sometimes in weather that boils
She does prune her garden and water potted plants
She does eat her vegetables and does skillfully cook
She does also enjoy eating freshly plucked fruit.

Learning about Botany she does become knowledgeable
About how plants work, relate to each other and their worth
Her four years of university study paying off
Learning the names of trees, plants and flowers
The gardener intelligent and keeping her garden fertile
Perpetually pruning, watering and re-potting plants
Keeping her garden alive and thriving with colour
Finding personal passion in sustaining the valuable earth.
