The Fortune Well Poem by Dr Ronnie Bai

The Fortune Well

Strategically in the quiet corner
Beaming friendly at th’ busy lottery
Ticket booth to many a pious player
Is placed this little Fortune Well readily.
At this ingenuity I often chuckle -
Th’ charity owner can’t be more clever.
Many people would toss many a nickel
Swirling down th’ steep silo for a winner.
As the jackpot bets bigger and bigger
The dark box under the little collect hole
Gulps in feed that gets fatter and fatter
From generous shaky hands on the dole.
Such a sight leaves me with a sad sad sigh
What charity is gambling sanctioned by?
