The Falling Poem by Lorraine Licona

The Falling

I stood at the edge of the world
and looked deep into the chasm
which was like my heart -
an endless pit of fear and darkness
and felt myself falling helplessly
tumbling and turning
Fear gripped my soul
and my head swam in thoughts
like a hurricane rushing in my mind
The blind fear of losing control
till the screaming madness would become
an eternal scream
which would ring in my ears forever
And as I fell I suddenly saw
a flash of light which was your eyes
and the dizzying dropp stopped short
as your spirit caught my fear
and quenched it
like water quenches a burning flame
The tranquility came
And peace
as slowly your arms entwined around me
and your body passed through mine
And as my blinded eyes slowly opened
I saw
Not a chasm
But a valley
Green
With a crystal river running
like diamonds shining in the bright sunlight
which was like my heart
