The Faceless Victim Poem by Avirat Shete

The Faceless Victim

Inside a moving bus, the girl was gang raped,
Four psycho demons, she just could not escape.

Shame on all men, shame on our nation,
Sets me thinking hard on this sorry situation.

Did she deserve, what she got that dark night?
Ravaged by those devils for a moment's delight,

To all the women of the world, I hereby apologise,
You're Used and abused openly... or in disguise.

Eve-teasing, molestation, comments so lewd,
Dirty hungry gaze, in a crowd you feel nude.

Sisters, mothers, daughters you need to take a stand,
Teach these scum a lesson, so they'll understand.

Attack is the best defense, mark my words wise,
Be bold, brave and strong, make sure your fear dies.

Let all the men know, they can't take you for a ride,
Break the hand that tries, to hurt your self pride.

Arise, Awake and Stop not till this goal is achieved,
Nirbhaya's rape n murder, our hearts are bereaved.

Let her not be forgotten, let her memory remain,
In our hearts forever, till these demons are slain.

The faceless girl who perished for no fault of hers,
I look at my young daughter, and myself I curse.

I promise you my darling and all of your gender,
I will strive for a world, which can love you tender.

Make it a better place, worthy of fearless living,
Trust the few good ones, please don't stop believing....
please don't stop believing!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is a tribute to the gang rape victim of Delhi. I pray her soul rests in peace and her needless death makes my countrymen ashamed. Hope fervently that men start respecting women and stop treating them as mere objects of lust...
