The Face Poem by Carole Moran

The Face

A beautiful face
With a gold mask.
A jester's face,
Yet not a jester, really.
A beautiful girl
In jester's attire.

Why would a beautiful girl
Wear a gold mask
And Jester's attire?

What would a beautiful girl
Be hiding inside
If not passion and fire?

Bells in her hair
Hanging on ribbons.
Such long ribbons
Of green and gold and purple.
A beautiful girl
With bells in her hair.

Why would a beautiful girl
Wear bells in her hair
Hanging on ribbons?

What would a beautiful girl
Be trying to attract
If not attention?

A glittery crown
With emerald stones.
A jeweled tiara,
More like a Vegas showgirl.
A beautiful girl
In an emerald tiara.

Why would a beautiful girl
Wear an emerald tiara,
A glittery crown?

What would a beautiful girl
Be trying to dazzle
If not a frown?
