The 'Eternal Stain' Poem by James Green

The 'Eternal Stain'

On a cold winter night, it did snow,
Where the sword into the earth did sow,
A strange essence was carried in the air-
Scent of a battle not played fair;
Corpses’ rose out of the mud,
And through the stones pain did flood;
“Stones or hearts? ” knew not the slayer
And for their peace he gave not a prayer.

His sword, stained eternal did weep
Blood after every blow it would sweep;
To the Almighty it prayed for salvation
After as “The Eternal Stain” it earned recognition.
Through meat both thick and tender it would run,
But after every blow its power would shun.
The river flew, the moss grew and the ship gained crew,
While the sword lost its might true.

The sword on a thunderous evening,
While it’s Master was blood bathing,
Spoke words at lightning speed,
To which its Master didn’t pay heed.
Through cries of war it repeated itself,
“Blunt my edge, release my hilt and place me on a shelf,
Discard me, not my words-so heavy, Oh! Master,
As they are heavy like your hands full of slaughter.

You walk through the sands, pretentious and gluttonous,
Leaving not a sin unfulfilled; spoken by the lips of His Son’s.
Master I beg your pardon for my insolence,
But I wish not to be a part of your vengeance”
The Master, held hard, the blade-
Stained and glittering in his shade;
The Master betrayed and alone,
Shattered the sword, with his fist of stone.

On another night, so cold and dry,
The Master on his prey did pry,
He pounced on him like a twisted snake,
And at his wrath the world did shake;
Slowly he crossed the dessert’s end,
And with the weight of his deeds his back did bend,
The weight of his slaughter snapped him in two,
Like every corpse of every man he had slew.

In the Lord’s hand lay “The Eternal Stain”,
The touch of His fingers, vanished its pain,
“These hands did wear to write your destiny” said the Lord,
“A destiny I never did fulfill” replied the sword.
“But you did; I sent you down to run my errand,
And you reached the Master’s hands, treacherous yet grand,
Your destiny was fulfilled when you showed the world a way to shed its pain,
By choosing the Lord over “The Eternal Stain””
