The Donkey Poem by Sean Joyce

The Donkey

Time was, dear Lord I carried you
You left your cross upon my back
The people cheered us in the street
And placed palm branches at our feet

But that is all forgotten now
The people jeer me on my way
I’d carry you again dear Lord
for just one hour of dignity
