The Music Is Beginning To Slow Down Poem by Sean Joyce

The Music Is Beginning To Slow Down

The music is beginning to slow down
and slower still the horses circle round
The man who sold the tickets
is counting his small change
and the music is beginning to slow down

The bumper-cars have all been packed away
And slower still the chair-a-plains at bay
the happy laughing stragglers
arm in arm now walk away
And the music is beginning to slow down

The lights are going out across our town
And somewhere on a farm a small dog barks
The moon climbs slowly upwards
rain drifts across the sky
And the music is beginning to slow down

The man who sold the tickets hums a tune
About a cowboy and a prairie moon
He’s not really where he wants to be
but knows he never will be free
And the music is beginning to slow down

I really enjoyed this Sean. Finely written and I could almost hear the fairground music as i read. Hugs Anna xxx

What a fine poem. Poignant.lyrical and memorable. No matter if the music slows down, we will write on. Take care. Warm regards, Sandra
