The Dance Is Over Poem by Steven Harris

The Dance Is Over

The parties are over
they are nothing more than a dead dance
trying to get everyone up and dance
but all it is, is a dead waltz.

Trying to make everyone be their dancing partner
telling us all to take their hand and follow their lead
and we do, we always follow their lead
but it's going nowhere
the music has died down and everyone is done
everyone is ready to sit down and have a drink
and get away from this crazy party.

The lights have begun to fade
the bar is ready to close
everybody now is fading out
everybody is going home
but the parties want it all to carry on
they want this shindig to continue.

This false ride is over
the last tango has been danced out and everyones legs are hurting
the ball in the sky has droped and the bar is closing
it's time to shut the dancing halls
time to lock up and turn the music off
everybody knows it
the parties are finnished, done, nobody wants to dance anymore.

But they will continue
everyone will continue to get up and dance
nobody wants to, but they can't help it
when the hand is out
when someone asks them to dance they always get up
these parties will continue unless everyone stops getting up to dance
stop putting the ball gown on and sit down.
