The Creation Poem by Jim Coleman

The Creation

High up in the Sistine Chapel
God the Father reaches out
to Adam as if to bid farewell
reluctantly. He seems in doubt.
Is it too soon to let him go
to make his way alone?
.
Adam looks well-formed but lies
limply on the ground and may be
waiting to be galvanised
with the energy only
God's fingers can impart
to His masterwork of art.
.
The narrative is incomplete.
Trapped in a timeless now,
their fingers never meet.
Adam looks up, while God looks down.
A resolution is denied.
Both remain unsatisfied.
