The Corper Poem by Godspower Oshodin

The Corper

Rating: 5.0

In a country of multi-cultural belief,
The shadow of happiness is their only relief.
Happy people, but divided in tribes,
Poverty for these dexterous students slides.

In 1973, the light of NYSC was casted,
Young Corpers, in unknown towns they visited.
Dis-unity is cultural background is veered,
Political rancor, sickness, and non-adaptation feared.

Favoritism and tribalism are a major plight,
The Corpers are posted to beam their national light.
Families, compensated by a promising Government,
Is it enough? As questions ravels their loved ones to lament.

Tenacious youths still risk this national service,
With vigor and vim, they pride through educational province.
As educational warlords, they fight for national pride,
My story will be told from that other side.
