The Command Poem by Taylor Dubay

The Command

And the cows stood motionless and gazed at the clouds rolling on the horizon. They billowed out from the crack of the sunset and threatened to swallow all. Dark faces sunk into the clouds crevices morphed into grimacing, vicious snarls. Not only the cows but the chickens, the pigs, dogs, cats, horses, sheep, goats, mankind were in a trance. A trance that mesmerized them deeply like a laceration through the brain. They all sat and stared on command at the horror of the cloud's presense. A booming roar radiated through the sky and made the watcher's hearts tremble. And forced upon them a command.
