The Canopy Of Leaves Poem by Saikat Poddar

The Canopy Of Leaves

While the leaves fall
Tormented by the onset
Of the chill
Falling prey
To the harsh winter winds,
I try to pave my way
Through the woods
On a stormy day
To a destination
I know not yet
Holding my Canopy
Of fresh leaves
Which I so carefully built
When the sun shined bright
Unaware that
My leaves too
Shall wither one day.

Do I look for a promise
From the stranger
In my arms
To build a new Canopy
While we walk
Holding each other
Close and tight
Boldly facing the gushing winds
To a destination unknown!
But gone are those greens now
The dry leaves around
Do not hold the promise
Of a Canopy strong
For it too shall
Wither soon.

Perhaps the storm was fated...
