The Camel Pastoralist Culture &tradition Of Rajasthan/ The Caravans Of Camels Going

My mind goes to that Rajasthan
Where the camel was a way of conveyance,
Travel and journey
In the desert sands,
The ship of the desert,
The camels trudging,
Trudging the ways,
Making forays into
Saddled and going,
The hunch-backed camels,
Bizarre-figured,
Going from big to small,
Small to big in figure
And structure.

Traditionally clothed
Rajasthanis, desert people
On the camel-backs
Saddled and going
With loads
And the camel trudging,
Trudging through,
Makina way into
The desert,
The icon of Rajasthan,
The beauty of the landscape,
The prosperity of rural folks.

The caravans of camels grazing,
Grazing beneath
The open spaces,
Seated on the desert sands,
Resting,
Standing and going,
The masters with them,
The camels at twilight,
At dawn break
And the pastoralists,
Shepherds taking care of,
Care of the intending herds of cattle.

But the numbers falling,
Dwindling abruptly,
The numbers of the grotesque camels
Grotesque but meek,
The numbers of the camels
As find I not in a plenty
Nor the herders, the shepherds
Caressing them, taking care of
The ship of the desert,
The camels,
Gigantic camels,
Hunch-backed and lowly
With a topsy-turvy, slide
From up to down
A rise
Just like an ostrich in form
But a beauty to see.
