The Call Poem by Abubakar Ahmed Imam

The Call

Rating: 5.0

I hear that call
From far away
Gentle, caressing...
Those tender words
That softly unfurl
The fluffy wings of sleep
Ah, it is familiar
This magic call
As it draws near
Chasing away
All traces of weakness
Yet, each time it's new
Like pearls and diamonds
Enchanting my ears
Luring my soul
Into its warm embrace
And oh,
Like the birth of a new born
This bliss of call
Slowly ushers in
The joyous break of dawn

This is one of only a few poems I have given a 10. What is remarkable here is that it is so unremarkable. This is excellant prose writing. It is long enough to not qualify as short prose. That is because the writer has plenty of time to say what he needs to say. This allows him great freedom. But it is the writer's use of this freedom that is the key. He writes without wasting a word. This is really a short masterpiece of writing. GW62
