The Cabin Poem by Richard Shindle

The Cabin

Rating: 5.0

From Texas to the Yukon- a 4000 mile trip to behold.
Great places to stop, remote campsites to enjoy in anticipation of the Land of Gold.
A small Indian village awaits us, as the ice on the lake nears breakup.
The days are getting longer, the nights are shorter, as we await our wakeup.
The winding road to the cabin is one of spring beauty.
A long winter has passed, flowers abound, and life is now no longer a duty.
With the log cabin now in sight, our spirits soar.
This is the land of gold where you could live forever more.
Entering our pristine domain along the lakeshore, winter has been kind.
Only a few signs of winter's creatures, but you pay it no mind.
The first morning sunrise in our remote getaway comes early over a hot cup of coffee.
Excitement abounds as the morning mist over the lake lifts, fueling our wonder of what will be.
The bears are busy as they prepare for their spring feast of salmon and berries.
The wind whistles thru the trembling aspen as it sends fragrant smells that carries.
As the waves break on the shore, a school of fish and a flock of ducks make their presence known.
This is the land of plenty where peace of mind prevails and mother nature assures that you are not alone.
Longtime friends appear to welcome our arrival- some local and some from afar.
Night time is so serene, quiet and often blessed by the silence of a falling star.
The summer flies by with salmon trips, berry picking, Dungeness crab dinners and much more.
The leaves begin to show fall colors, nights get colder, and our spirits soar.
Soon it will be time to leave, and a bit of sadness sets in.
We will still have the memories and the anticipation when it will all begin again.
