The Buffalo Poem by Ima Ryma

The Buffalo

Rating: 5.0

Upon the Great Plains they did roam,
Magnificent in size and shape,
Sharing with first peoples their home.
The buffalo filled the landscape.
Relied on their bodies to give
Life essentials to peoples graced
By buffalo so as to live.
None of buffalo went to waste.
The spirit of the buffalo
Was praised by first peoples so that
All good brought by nature would flow
Through the Great Plains shared habitat.

Intruders came in time and place,
Slaughtered buffalo in disgrace.
