The Black Cloak Poem by penny green

The Black Cloak

Quantify pain if you can
Describe in words that make sense
Suffer it, but please suffer alone
Keep it to yourself
We don't want to know
We really don't care
We understand
No, you don't
To you it is not real
You do not live it every day
You smile
You nod
You say you care
But I know what you think
I used to be just the same
I smiled
I nodded
I looked like I cared
But without the cloak
The black cloak of pain
I did not know what pain really was.
