The Battle Within Poem by Changu Chilwesa

The Battle Within

THE BATTLE WITHIN
As she stands at life’s crossroads, not too sure which way in which she should go,
She looks to the left, and then to the right whichever way she goes, danger awaits.
The pangs of blood thirsty men, she fears. The pain of suffering and sorrow she feels.
Like a mighty ocean’s flow, she feels her blood rush. Like the sound of an ancient drum,
Her heart beats and each beat a reminder of how much little time she has in which to
Decide, for if her mind she does not make destruction and doom befalls. Wait! Why am so afraid
She asks? I shouldn’t be, am a mighty woman of valor and these my hands are well trained for
Battle.

His past failures and mistakes torment him, many plans he has made but what if they do not
Succeed? In the stillness of the night, he awakes about to embark on the scariest journey of them
All, much opposition facing he shall. Persecution calls out his name, he shakes, almost sure he can hear
Every bone inside him crack, He stops to look behind him, his own shadow scares him. Closes his eyes,
For a while the coward in him wants to hide. His been at this very point before, almost close to the
Mountain’s peak, if he loses grip he might fall. He hangs on, for he knows better, the mighty man in
Battle, he kept for a friend and his counsel he sort.

Virteous woman! Man of honor! They both respectively have become. Danger still awaits, persecution
Come it may but their are not afraid. The battle within, they both fight, fearlessly as a lion and as they
Make life’s toughest decision wisely as a serpent, they will. In the face of adversity they stare, with faces
As harmless as a dove, they remember the battle is theirs for the taking, victory at the other end of the
road It waits, for to them only it belongs because more than conquerors they are…

Keepin it Jesus, Changu
