Thanks For Making Me A Father Poem by Patrick Ivey

Thanks For Making Me A Father

Thanks for making me a Father

At first glance you took my breath away.
And with your smile. My heart.
A simple hello and I was yours.
You had me from the start.

With hand-in-hand you set my path.
Our future painted with your lips.
A highway paved with loving caresses.
On which I've taken many trips.

You changed a child into a man.
And made foolishness retreat.
Then replaced it with maturity.
And children at my feet.

You took the days of loneliness.
Of which I was completely unaware.
And filled them with companionship.
In this lifetime that we share.

It hasn't always been easy.
All roads have ruts and curves.
But each mile's been worth traveling.
Some much more, than I deserve.

With stabbing daggers in our words.
We've caused each other pain.
That turned our heads into a cloud.
And caused our eyes to rain.

But good days, have greater numbers.
And far outweigh the bad.
And I'm thankful for each and every one.
I'm called Sweetheart and a 'Dad.'
