without you
i would have
not learned
from my
mistake.

the sun
would not
have realized
how the moon
too completes

his presence.

a dog barking
at the wrong
door
would not have
realized
its own
dogginess.

a shooting star
would not have
realized
the valuable
reason for
its death:
your wish
fulfilled.

goodbye would
not have meant
anything
it would have
no place
in the field of
reminiscing.

vaya con dios.

may your own losing
be my own gain.
may your own fate
serve the purpose
of destiny.
may our deaths
have meaning too.
may our lives
be better forgotten.
may our love
be still a mystery
a puzzle for another
oedipus to solve.
may the sphinxes
along the roads that
divide and fall
still live with all
the riddles that
they all make
to those who still
want to live.
