Tell Me Who Did It! Poem by Mark Nichols

Tell Me Who Did It!

Tell me who did it!
(Tell him what?)
I said, tell me who did it!
(Who did what?)
You heard me, tell me who did it?
(Who did it? Who did it?)
Oh tell me who did this to me
Tell me who did it!
Who put that whiskey in my tea?
'Cause somethin's come over me!

Now right after the sermon
My toes started tappin'
My leg got to hoppin'
And my hands started clappin'
The old maids started lookin' mighty fine
And all I could think about was the communal wine

The preacher gave me his dirtiest look
As he took a hold of the holy book he said,

Tell me who did it!
Tell him what?
I said, tell me who did it!
Who did what?
You heard me, tell me who did it?
Who did it? Who did it?
Oh tell me who did this to me
Tell me who did it
Who put that whiskey in my tea
'Cause somethin's come over me

Now the whole church broke into a mighty roar
The sanctuary became a big dance floor
The deacons jived and the elders swayed
The pious screamed out an accolade
The offering was passed and everybody prayed
And the good lord spoke
And through an angel he said

Tell me who did it!
(Tell him what?)
I said, tell me who did it!
(Who did what?)
You heard me, tell me who did it?
(Who did it? Who did it?)
Oh tell me who did this to me
Tell me who did it!
Who put that whiskey in our tea?
C'mon tell me who did it!
Who put that whiskey in our tea?
