Tell Me What Was It That I Did That Was So Wrong? Poem by Michelle Chargualaf

Tell Me What Was It That I Did That Was So Wrong?

All I ever tried to do is love you. Tell me, what is it I ever did that was so wrong?

I was told the Father was the Creator of everything and the Lord was whom you went to when you needed help. I accepted the two with such limited knowledge and loved you both unconditionally. I became the target of attack as a result. Tell me, what did I ever do that was so wrong?

I tried everything I could do to be a good girl. I loved learning about the wonders I witnessed to in this world. I sought only love and acceptance. Tell me, what did I ever do that was so wrong?

There were times when my life was in jeopardy. Still you took time out to save me, only for evil to prey upon me anyhow. Tell me, what did I ever do that was so wrong?

As I grew older and ostracized further, I tried harder and harder to love others. No one wanted to do anything but abuse me. Tell me, what did I do that was so wrong?

You sought after me only to degrade me, a Jezebel, an adulterer and a thief.
Tell me, what was it that I ever did that was so wrong?

I accepted my chastisement and begged for mercy and forgiveness, only for you to expect more and more of me. Tell me, what was it I ever did that was so wrong?

I was never trying to be you, but I still loved as you do instinctively. A sacrificial lamb was your role, still you keep expecting me to assume the same. I am merely a loving human being. Tell me what was it I ever did that was so wrong?
