Tales Upon The Land Poem by Sarah K Graf

Tales Upon The Land

Rating: 3.5

One day I went a sailing
To an island I have to fleet
When I saw a creature shimmer by
And sit blankly at my feet.

'Ahoy' I called politely.
'May I ask of where you came.'
She shoke her head most sweetly
'No, ' she sighed 'For the place has no name.'

'But please, I beg you, ' she said
'Of tales upon the land.
I promised them all a story,
These tales are of high demand.'

'Ok, ' I decided quickly
Not believing my site.
'Come closer so I can hear it.'
She taunted lightly 'I don't bite.'

Leaning in again she stared at me
I gave her a puzzled frown
But she threw me a kiss, pursed her lips
And dragged me yelling down.

And as the water grew in around me
My mind slipping away
Giving into her temptation
Whispers, 'Forever you will stay.'

So I'm drowning in the water
A peaceful death I shall accept.
But wait? A hand comes forward.
Is this an angel they have sent?

With my head above the water
I could see most far and wide.
I looked around for my savior
Left with no one at my side.

So without a second thought
I swam so fast to shore
Arriving dazed and confused.
Thinking of the creature ever more.

With the true sky all above me
I kissed the gentle sand.
Never again will I tell of
My tales upon the land.
