Syria Poem by Kamal Komal

Syria

o shame u covetous world
in your greed and filthy war
torn and scrambled are these lives
whose dreams you sold for the fortune
robbing their future and pushing
them into the dark alley of destitution
and you thrived denying them the right to hope
when they cried you collected their tears
not to grieve but to sell the salt from it
and when your purse turned fat
i saw your lips turning to curvy beaks
and your hands, long wings
when your hunger turned gluttony
you fed on their corpse
you quenched your thirst in their blood
Now that you are done here
where are you looking with your vulture eyes? ?
