Surrounded! Poem by Malcolm Gould

Surrounded!

They surrounded the bed where their mother lay
like vultures waiting for the victim to expire
gasping for breath faces becoming more clouded
within was at peace her life had been good
not wanting any family and friends to feel sadness
memories to be good not linger or depress!

Certainly not left with no love one to give comfort
not in a dark dank slum or leaking tent
was in her own warm comfortable and familiar bed
a figure dressed in white glowed nearby
her husband to smiled patiently waiting in shadow
recall flowed like a slide show!

Not young satisfied she had no regrets or bad secrets
there for the children and grandchildren
her daughter sat holding mothers hand tightly so cold
peace filled the bedroom eyes closed
breathing stopped as her soul left the vessel at last
she was now part of history!

Holding the man she had married and gone far to soon
took one more gentle gaze at the family
then guided by the angel through that brilliant light
those present sensed she had passed on
praying over the empty body they loved so very dear
in unity they would forever be near!
