Surreal Poem by Ruta Mohapatra

Surreal

What times have come to pass!
Days as silent as night
Not one footfall at my door
No human voice resounds
Save whispers from neighbouring house!

Nature reclaimed its spaces
Peace reigns all around
The twittering birds abound
On trees waving their heads
The wind caressing their leaves

The windows are all open
The sun peeps through the grills
I go from window to window
To look at the familiar scenes
Now so strangely quiet

Will I ever wake up
From this long eerie dream
To go back to the old times
Of carefree walking and roaming
Under the shady boughs?
