Surfaces Poem by Robin Rodriguez

Surfaces

Pretty smiles are nothing
And pretty words can
Only lead people astray.

I won't cover the petty truth for you
Don't try to make me feel bad
About my own shortcomings.
I know they are there.

And if you hold up a mirror,
So that I may see my image,
In hopes of frightening me,
Then be disappointed,
Because I know exactly
What I am.
