Sunset Poem by Gita Ashok

Sunset

Somewhere over the horizon
as the Sun bids adieu –
a magical scene unfolds
in front of my eyes.

The sky changes color
from moment to moment.
The clouds get painted
with the sunset’s colors.

The crescent moon slowly
peeps through the clouds
and rose-ringed parakeets
chirp happily as they fly.

Pink, mauve,
purple and now grey
all splash over
the western sky.

I hear the sound of
a lizard announcing -
the day is done.
Yes, the day is done.

But am I all done with all the things
I planned for the day?
Today is now almost gone and
tomorrow is not too far away.
