Sunny Tower Poem by Ashutosh Agarwal

Sunny Tower

Rating: 5.0

Sunny Tower

There's a tower nearby
We call it Sunny Tower
I remember
Getting light for the first time
I remember my senses being low
Unable to think
Eager to find more light
Excited to speak, speak so much
Telling my people how good it is
How good it would be
If it remains as it is: so bright

I still find myself
Climbing those stairs on the tower.
Those stairs,
That lead us to an iron gate.
A closed, rusted iron gate.
A light so bright in our eyes,
A sun so warm in our pockets
We can't be stopped

We climb the alley.
We get there
We see darkness.
We see a cemented bench.
We step ahead.
We sit on the bench
And until we wonder why it's dark
Along comes the sun.
A bright, Shiny, sun.

Then once again,
We see the whole world below us
A glazed look down the road,
The whole lot of people staring at us
They stare, they think
Yet they do not come up here
You know why?
Because it's dark in here.
When will all my people realise
That this sun of mine
Will never let me walk without her
And She.Is.Bright.

'Ek aur bhai' a voice so convincing
That we couldn't help but
Smile.Roll.Light.
And then watch the sun burning in our hands.
So bright.
So brighter than the world below us.

I hope someday
You find this light.
These heights.
This bench.
This iron gate.
These stairs.
This place.
And sit with me for a while
To watch the sun burn
In our hearts so deep inside.
