Sun Bitten Poem by Calvin Nyangena

Sun Bitten

The charm betrayed his chastity

that he mistook cistern for sink

for he needed rinsing water

after exhausting his coffee discharge

the place so welcoming

for ones i love

hands and glove with crime

so chains befall

he tried to keep his virginity

not until he broke loose

from norms of culture

from bounds of society

more so orb of race

claim never to have played the cards well

'cause the younger he chose the worse

now drawing five behind bars

in meditation like a sick chick

sat blaming the Lora

each tear had every reason to flow

counting lives made in terms of fingers

sun bitten beyond recalling the arithmetic.

a rifle he had so strong shooting

the strongholds of his ambition did worth it

for he claimed the holy book had it

and now what

no justice

no mercy

hell on earth.
