There are stories.
There are people telling stories
and people listening to them.

The room is full
of the breath of the stories.

That is enough.

Eight months of winter at minus 40.
A weaned baby froze to death;
the grieving did not last long.

Soon there are stories.
Between prayers and more prayers
between one meal and the next
there are stories.
This kind of state is a perfect state.

অজস্র গল্প/ কো উন


অজস্র গল্প।
লোকেরা গল্প বলছে
আর অন্যলোকেরা শুনছে সেসব।

ঘর ভরে আছে
অসংখ্য গল্পের শ্বাস-প্রশ্বাসে।

যথেষ্ঠ হলো ওসব।

শূন্যের নিচে ৪০ডিগ্রী নেমে যাওয়া শীত নামলো আট মাস ধরে।
সদ্য মাই-ছাড়া একটা শিশু ঠাণ্ডায় জমে মরে গেল;
সেই শোক স্থায়ী হতে পারলো না বেশি দিন।

শীঘ্রি শুরু হলো গল্প আর গল্প।
এবাদত-বন্দেগি এবং অারও আরও এবাদত-বন্দেগির ফাঁকে
এক খাবারের বেলা থেকে আরেক খাবারের বেলার মধ্যাবসরে
চলতে লাগলো গল্প, গল্প, গল্প।

এমন রাষ্ট্রই তো আদর্শ রাষ্ট্র!
