Stony Heart Poem by Brandon Lucero

Stony Heart

Sometimes the rarest stones are deep and wide
neath' the chasm of the ocean's tide

And these boulders are so ingrained
my bird sings mute
my soul is stained

Finding light amidst midnight
impossible fading dusk
these stones my infinite cross to bear

Fears build sorrow
hope a vapor
that used to be
no tomorrow
for a man like me

My stony heart a lonely place

Then I saw

Your radiant face

Stirring faith
inspiring desire
your winds blown
through this raging wildfire

Your hurricane of divine love
the sweetest sounding devastation

notes of God's improvisation

Composing my heart's reclamation
My stony heart restored to grace

Hearing the sonnet of your soul
heaven wept tears of joy

I never knew a stone could change
my best friends
the familiar pains

Listening to your luscious symphony
God's penetrating expression
a loving reminder
to let forever be
