Stay With Me Poem by Shaharyaar Kamaal Siddiqui

Stay With Me

With weary eyes, I stand and look into the endless, dreary desert of the future,
My heart shuddering, grasped viciously, in the thoughts of times, unseen;
Of stories unshaped, and the enigma of that fleeting entity called time,
Yet to unravel;
For I fear what it holds for me and what remains to greet my seeking eyes,
I stand between two worlds,
One that time has left behind in its giant strides,
Unleashing precious pearls of sweet memories to cherish;
A mosaic of myriad, unbridled emotions sways before me,
The blessed and the best days of my life were those,
Those leisurely walks amidst the budding flowers with arm in arms,
Gazing aimlessly at the distant horizon from dawn to dusk;
Experiencing the first monsoon shower under a single umbrella,
The sea of love, I saw in your doe like eyes,
Your gentle kiss on the forehead, running the fingers softly through my tousled hairs,
Soothing my soul and making me feel I lived a lifetime;
One who ushered unbound love in my life,
Showing innocuously, yet brilliantly the meaning of love and to be loved!
The chequered past will remain safe in my heart,
Till the day, clay over this mortal self!

The awareness of the time to come, being boisterous and unpredictable,
Haunts me, eclipsing my days and darkening my nights,
We met, loved and promised, never to part;
Until death did us apart!
For the follies and flaws in the designs of man,
Oh God, do not take away the love of my life,
Life cannot be unfair and the ONE who has stringed me with you,
HE who silently devised schemes to fill your heart and mine,
With a feeling sublime,
Can't unwind two hearts which are entwined!
For life is a long journey and I a lone traveler,
Let her sing to me tunes of happiness and love,
And my journey a meaningful one;
While I traverse paths unknown and ways untried!
And when day, by divine intercept, it all comes to closure,
Let her clasp her hand and sit beside me;
When I close my eyes and bid adieu!
A thousand souls rest beneath the soil,
Some in peace for having seen a life accomplished,
Others in unrest for desires unfulfilled;
I wish not to be counted in the later,
Impart me a life in the eyes of my love;
And a satisfying death in the beckoning eyes of my love!
