Stay Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Stay

When someone makes your heart flutter
You can't help it
that it melts like butter
Its just your heart speaking

I know its not the thing you want
not from me
not the thing you need
but I wish you could feel and see

My heart points to you
and wishes it was free
you touch me with gentleness
your softness and courtesy

My heart is here for you
an open book I don't mind if you see
I miss you very much
and wonder if you miss me

I don't ask for any answer
to my heart's silent plea
I know you've been here
a treasured friend to me

Strangers still
We have much I hope we share
I don't ask anything of you
I know somehow you show me care

I see you as a blessing
to this lonely heart
that has been hurting so long inside
and will break in half if you should part

I try to give you kindness
and sincerity but little do you ask
but when you've been here, in your spirit I feel
I feel your presence, I miss you, and in your thought I bask

I try not to care too hard
because I fear you'll somehow go away
and that thought hurts so much inside
like a promise thrown away

and so I care each day, more than yesterday

I miss you
you can feel it beneath my words
and I hope you feel it in your heart
You've met a friend, who won't rush to part

I don't understand any of it
its a feeling so strange and unknown
but to you, my lovely stranger
my feelings wish to roam

I have nothing to offer you
nothing that shines half as bright as you
You seem surrounded by bright light
and me, in a mountain of blue

Still you feel I'm somthing
and if I argued 'no' you'd say 'yes'
A broken heart feels when it has found a home
a place where it can feel secure and rest

Searching for your softness
wishing all of you was known
a rose among the thorns
a gentle place for dreams to find a home

Your hand I wish to touch oneday
your hand I wish to hold
That moment I think I'd treasure
a warmth radiant instead of cold

It may be just a distant dream right now
so don't mind that it was told
such a feeling is a vision of hope
and can't be bought or sold

To say such things is not to push you away
It is not a crime to care for someone
and lest you shy away, my heart calls to you
with this one request: Stay......
