Stares... Poem by Demetrisha Barnes

Stares...

Stares from watchful eyes
to me are no surprise
let them look upon my being
perhaps one day they will understand what they are seeing
if they fail to comprehend, their existence will soon end
for this is the calm before the storm
the clouds mystify and the waters lie dormant
it's an astonishing observation to witness
though you experience it, you do not believe it
you continue to doubt the translucent
and uphold the impudent
just in case you still don't get it
let me go full circle and show it
so that the untainted truth you may know
you see, you hear, you feel
but to yourself you say, 'this isn't real'
you taste and you smell; but yet
you are still out of touch.
Unbelievable as it may be to you
Know that I am real
