Standing At The Gates Poem by James Haggenmaker

Standing At The Gates

There I stand at the gates,
Awaiting the demon to announce my fate,
Every moment of my life, led me to this,
Now I'll burn with eternal bliss,

Blisters bubble my skin,
Hells fire consumes my sins,
Burning eyes melting away,
Betrayal was my greatest mistake,

Years pass by like seconds, my features stay the same
trapped alone in darkness, completely engulfed in flames
Scared and scarred with nothing but regret and pain
My soul lost for eternity, without knowing your name

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem after my ex-girlfriend broke up with me because I betrayed her trust. I felt like I deserved to go to hell for what I had done. Just for the record, I didn't cheat on her. We agreed to keep our relationship a secret and I told a friend who began spreading it around.
