St Kabeer's Couplets 24: Not Caste, Saint's Knowledge Vast
Never enquire of a saint's caste,
Query for sure his knowledge vast,
Put price upon a goodly sword,
Leave alone sheath and scabbard.

जाति न पूछो साधु की, पूछ लीजिये ज्ञान,
मोल करो तरवार का, पड़ा रहन दो म्यान।
Jāti na pūćho sādhu kī, pūćha lījiye jnyāna,
Mola karo taravāra kā, pađā rahan do myāna.
Enquire not about the castes and communities; ask for knowledge from whatever source comes, welcome it. Find out how good is the sword, its sheath matters little.

The philosopher- spiritualist Kabeer has laid before us a multitude of advices which have been considered as gems of saintly thoughts, later known under the title " DOHE" . The metaphorical expertise applied by St. Kabeer is ascertive to bring out the meaning of his verses. It's meaningless to know the caste of a saint; know how much sharp a sword is, need not bother for the sheath. Brilliant translation.....10
