Squander Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Squander

The things we love most
we squander
or they squander us

It hurts so
so much more than words
to lose love and trust

All the best of us
frozen or lost
or abandoned left to rust

One day sooner than a blink
quicker than one can think
turned back to dust

All that matters
all that was ever dreamed
will go bust

Precious moments
only memories
In God We Trust

We once treasured them
once did love and lust
squandered the best of us

Blindly hurting, starving
agonizingly, empty
squandered so much

Kicked to the floor
dying inside, clinging
let go, somehow we must
