Spiritual Gumbo Poem by Jimmy L. Lyons

Spiritual Gumbo

I want to quench my desire - it's on fire;
I don't want to be left out in the cold.
This mess is getting too old
I want to be lifted up on wings -
like Tamela Mann singing "Take Me to the King."
I just want to taste the spiritual gumbo.

I'm hoping this will be my season;
I want to be moved - like Earth, Wind & Fire singing "Reasons."
If I paint a picture of my life, I want it to be right.
I'm trying to keep it real, because I want to be healed.
I want to taste the spiritual gumbo.

I just want to sing my spiritual song;
Don't want to get stuck - want to keep moving on.
I've gone through the rain - don't want any more pain;
I just want to taste the spiritual gumbo.

I just want to let go, let God,
and be blessed with some spiritual gumbo.
