Spider Rock Poem by David Saltaire

Spider Rock

When the night came on
timid creatures sang their song,
I was singing too
an old familiar song
from the broken radio
how we never even know
our Eden when we’re there
like the fir tree in the tale
sighing in the fire.
And the night was
coming on…

I watched your movie play
of a long dead summer day
you told my story then and
I cried to see the way
that I used to wander blind.
I felt some sympathy
for the first and only time
I forgave that long-gone me
but, it flickered on the screen
and then it
passed away…

So, I traveled to the dunes
to breathe the desert air
I gathered up the cactus
and I climbed the spider rock,
now I’m soaring in the air
maybe I’ll pass through you
it might be very nice
to feel you once again
to touch your lips to mine
and just before we die
we could shine...
like lovers do.
