Speculation In The City Poem by Chris Lane

Speculation In The City

</>Seated in the city
In a financial house of speculation
Where the manipulation of commodities is considered the norm not the exception
And little concern is shown for the ramifications of our actions

During such transactions where nothing physically happens
A distant warehouse is paid to keep a commodity in a storage situation
Usually later within days the end-user begins to complain due to the unexpected scarcity of the commodity that they depend on
While in reality the value of the commodity is being manipulated and has been inflated falsely

Maneuvering in this manner one feels much like a gambler and is unable to determine a predictable outcome
And When Rice, Wheat and Corn are the commodities that are manipulated and speculated upon
Then the end-user will first feel hunger and if poor is faced with disaster unable to afford the newly inflated values
And exaggerated rumors will spread like wildfires sparking food rioters.......

A pale yellowish luminous green emitted from my screen
I could not sit comfortably seated here in the city
The whole idea now seemed short and cheap
And besides what profit could I keep

How did I ever get here?
So removed from commodity and user
A perfect recipe for disaster
Something so soulless this venture I wager
