Speak Poem by Oye Caleb

Speak

Speak the truth that is in your head
Tell the story that lips won't tell
Be the difference in your world
And ignore the murmuring of the ignorant crowd

Fight the itching need to flatter
Fight the fears of the consequences ahead
Be the person no one else would dare to be
Be our moon in our days of darkness

Although I can't promise you a Mandela story
Or a happy ending as you might wish
But this pain and endurance you suffer
Would have its effect sometime, either sooner or longer
Just speak the truth that hides in your head.
I beg of you, speak.
