Sonnet: Life Versus After-Life Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: Life Versus After-Life

For life’s success is what most people aim;
All want to see the peak in time record;
They choose the easy route for lucre, fame,
Not caring for the Almighty’s accord.

None accept failures even in the least;
Short-cuts, by-passes are the ones all seek;
All want to win the game of life and feast;
The competition’s between strong and meek.

The man of wisdom thinks of after-life;
He ekes his livelihood in righteous ways;
He clasps the feet of God in face of strife;
He thanks and praises Maker all his days.

The man who wins on earth can miss heaven;
The man who wins heaven wins earth even.
