Sonnet: Infanticide Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: Infanticide

The mother zebra could not save young one!
The hungry lioness had killed it fast;
It turns to watch the gruesome act half-done,
And walks away with sad a heart, at last.

The elephant herd forms a ring around
Their cubs, protecting them from hunting beasts;
They chase the lions with their trumpet sound
And tusks, before their cubs become their feasts!

Yes, mothers must protect their little ones
From harm, from hungry animals that hunt;
They do this duty all their life, not once-
An act of bravery and not a stunt!

Yet, human mothers kill their babes in womb,
Due to ‘unwanted child’ and baby-boom?
