Sonnet # 26 The Ebbing Tide Poem by John A. Hancock

Sonnet # 26 The Ebbing Tide

The ebbing tide of mistrust returns
Rising beneath the nightly stars
Slowly making its way to your heart
To reveal thy painful scars
As you stand upon this lonely shore
On a island call'd deceived
Thou looks for any reason to disclaim
The pledge of love I offer'd thee
As the waves lap against thy feet
While you gaze towards yon distant sky
Let the sun set upon your missgivings, towards
The chance of love between you and I
For no hidden motives to thee I bare
Just a love that's true this to you I swear
