Songbird. Poem by Carl Roussell

Songbird.

Rating: 5.0

One side
Says they are right.
One side says they are wrong.
See each side as the other's they;
Not them.

Warfare;
Bullets flying
Instead of pretty birds
Nesting in the trees. Kids die
Once more.

*Peacetime,
Can it return
After warfare and hate,
With the songbirds singing so sweet
For us?

Hunger;
An empty plate
For an empty stomach
Where were you when the child died?
One more.

*Peacetime,
Will it return
After hunger and hate?
Will the songbird sing it's sweet song
For us?

Thanks for the comment. All too often children are the innocent victims in war.

Thanks for the comment. Too often children pay the price for decisions we make.
