Song Of Myself (Inspired By Walt Whitman) Poem by Vaida Marea

Song Of Myself (Inspired By Walt Whitman)

Rating: 4.8

I celebrate myself, and sing myself,
Young, and more shelled-tered than I care to believe.
Shape-shifting through life...A metamorphosis.

Entering the world, tiny and vulnerable,
A caterpillar girl, shy and plain,
Infused with doubt, unsure of self,
Waiting for my change to begin.

Walled up in my cocoon for so long,
But now I'm ready to leave.
My thoughts are still tainted with insecurity,
Controlled by my eagerness to please,
But I've always been more content
As a comfortable observer, loyal and serving,
Than the one holding on to the reins.

Now becoming a reluctant adult,
Starting to spread my wings in the world,
Clinging to my childish ideals,
Attempting to live life as care-free as possible,
Yet sometimes dwelling on things that are beyond my control,
Like the fact that growing up is one rite-of-passage I can't opt out of.

I dance in the lights of the beginnings of love.
They ignite in the atmosphere like fireworks.
As I listen to each fizzling explosion, I hope for my happy ending.
I wonder what's gonna happen next for me.
I celebrate my youth and sing my happiness,
Basking in the elusiveness of my future.
For tomorrow never comes
Only you do, with your sweet kisses,
Your musky smell.
As I walk along the path of life,
I search for your eyes.
My hand reaches out, anticipating yours.
I stop somewhere waiting for you.
