Sometimes I Think Being A Poet Is A Curse! Poem by Daniel Hooks

Sometimes I Think Being A Poet Is A Curse!

Sometimes I think being a poet is a curse
Poetry does nothing to fill a poet's purse, (or wallet)
Being published is a poet’s goal
but all the end up is being on the dole.

A poet will also want to try to spread ideas
challenge established thought
(being the emotional and thoughtful sought)
with a thought provoking rhyme or two
but the establishment nearly always wins out in the end
drives the lower class poet round the bend.

Poets will also like to read and write love poems
and being a romantic fool
and thinking it cool
to be that way inclined
will write lots and lots of love poems
trying to woo the object of their desire
with the fire of their romance.
But being poor and more importantly not owning a car
the object of their desire will put out the fire
by threatening the poet with a restraining order!

Another curse to a poet will be writers block
an infuriating condition to both poet and surrounding people
as they will not only force themselves to write
but will insist on reading their writers block shite
to anyone who'll listen
but more importantly wont say no!

On the flipside however writing poetry can be rewarding
A smile from someone who has read your verse
Is maybe enough to relieve the poets curse,
and make it seem worthwhile
Because all a poet really needs is a smile,
To make their day
Please give one to them for God's sake! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Yes all we need sometimes is smile or the one that we wrote the poem for to get the message we have wrote for them. But being poor and more importantly not owning a car. I think that is so we have something to say and so we walk and make something about the day when we have that writers block. Best wishes Good luck Marilyn
